Role Purpose:

The Sheffield College is a large, vibrant and diverse further education college and we are proud of how the college contributes to transforming lives through learning by meeting local skills needs.

As a Students’ Union President you will be responsible for identifying, developing, promoting and taking part in the cross-college student activities which meet national and College priorities and learners’ needs, including aspects of health promotion, community cohesion and volunteering opportunities. You will be required to provide support and advocacy for welfare issues by managing a proactive, responsive service for learners whilst also supporting the development of positive attitudes and relations.

Main Responsibilities:

Working with the Head of Student Participation and Careers and the Student Voice Coordinator to provide training and development opportunities for the student reps and the faculty lead reps
Develop and manage Students’ Union sponsored clubs, societies, and social activities.
Represent the student body at appropriate strategic and advisory groups including the Governing Body
Supporting the recruitment and management of Students’ Union Officers and the Students’ Union Council.
Act as Student Governor, Learner Forums, Students’ Union executive team meetings and student consultations where identified.
Maintain daily security of confidential records and resources.
Liaise with other agencies to identify possible sources of resources and/or funding for development activities and support services.
Ensure that College policies for Equality and Diversity and quality management and control are employed effectively to meet the required internal and external quality standards.
Ensure the effective implementation and utilisation of all systems of work, including strict adherence to financial regulations and procedures, providing information and statistics to contribute to college reports.
Responsible for the promotion and distribution of Students’ Union cards, as well as identifying other possible sources of income.
Liaise with College services in the promotion of Students’ Union services and facilities, including on-line information

From time-to-time these responsibilities may be reviewed so that they evolve as part of the college’s strategic growth and success. You may also be required to take on other tasks related to the job to support the College in the delivery of its strategic aims, without changing the role's main purpose.

Cross College Responsibilities

You may be required to participate in cross-college teams and working groups on key projects.

You may need to attend relevant internal committees and groups.

You will act as a role model to colleagues, ensuring that the responsibilities of the post are carried out in line with the College’s FREDIE+ values and behaviours.

Student Related Responsibilities

Anyone who has regular contact with children and young people in their day-to-day responsibilities must ensure they are safe. You will work with the Safeguarding Team, ensuring concerns regarding students/apprentices are shared in a timely, accurate manner
You will be involved in supporting college open days, during the exam season student enrolment, and any other required events.

Other Responsibilities

All staff are responsible for ensuring the college provides a safe and sustainable environment for students, staff and visitors. You will support this by:

Understanding and undertaking the specific responsibilities for their role as documented within the Health and Safety Policies and procedures.
Ensure compliance with Data Protection Regulations.
Ensure that environmental sustainability is a key consideration in the actions we take, working towards the college’s environmental strategy and net zero ambition.

As the successful candidate, you will be offered a salary of £26,570 per annum based upon a combination of the skills, knowledge and experience that you can bring to the role.
