ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a genuinely exciting time to join Boston College. We are a forward-thinking organisation with ambitious plans for the future, and this newly defined role sits at the heart of our Senior Leadership Team. You will have a real and lasting opportunity to shape how we govern, how we grow and how we serve our community.
The Director of Governance will be responsible for ensuring that the Board operates effectively, within its powers, and in full accordance with legal, statutory and regulatory requirements. Working closely with the Chair, Principal and Chief Executive, and Senior Leadership Team, the postholder will provide clear, impartial advice on governance, constitutional, procedural and ethical matters affecting the Board, its committees and subsidiary companies. You will champion transparency, accountability and continuous improvement.
If you are a confident communicator, a strategic thinker and someone who is passionate about the value of great governance, this is your opportunity to make a meaningful difference, from day one.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a governance professional with a sound understanding of corporate governance, board administration and compliance, ideally with experience in the further education, public or charitable sectors. The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- A good working knowledge of governance frameworks, charity and company law, and the regulatory environment affecting further education
- The ability to advise and communicate confidently with senior leaders and boards on governance, procedural and constitutional matters
- Strong interpersonal skills and the credibility to operate independently, providing impartial counsel to the Chair and Board
- Experience of, or a keen aptitude for, managing board and committee processes, including agenda setting, minuting and the maintenance of statutory documentation
- An understanding of data protection legislation, including GDPR
- Strong organisational and analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage a varied and rewarding workload
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and engagingly to a range of audiences
- A strategic mindset, with the ability to see the bigger picture and contribute to the long-term development of the College's governance culture
- A commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion
