About
I am writing to express my strong interest in the Mathematics teaching position within your organisation. As an experienced and highly qualified Mathematics educator with over twenty-five years of teaching experience across secondary, further, and higher education settings in both the United Kingdom and Nigeria, I am confident that I possess the skills, knowledge, and professional attributes necessary to make a significant contribution to your students, department, and wider institution.
My academic background includes a PhD in Measurement and Evaluation, a Master of Education in Measurement and Evaluation, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Sciences. In addition, I hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and maintain membership with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria. These qualifications have provided me with a strong theoretical and practical foundation in mathematics education, assessment, curriculum development, and student achievement.
Throughout my career, I have taught Mathematics across a wide range of age groups and ability levels, including Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, Sixth Form, Further Education, and undergraduate learners. My experience spans the delivery of GCSE Mathematics, IGCSE Mathematics, Functional Skills Mathematics, A-Level Mathematics support, and preparation for external examinations including WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, and IGCSE. This breadth of experience has enabled me to develop a flexible and adaptive teaching style that meets the diverse needs of learners while maintaining high academic expectations.
In my current role as Lecturer in Mathematics at Gloucestershire College, I deliver engaging and inclusive lessons that promote mathematical understanding, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. I utilise a variety of teaching strategies to accommodate different learning styles, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to succeed. I regularly assess student progress through formative and summative assessment methods, providing timely and constructive feedback that supports improvement and builds learner confidence. My approach focuses on creating an environment where students feel valued, challenged, and motivated to achieve their full potential.
Prior to joining Gloucestershire College, I worked as a Mathematics Teacher in several UK secondary schools, including City Academy Birmingham, where I delivered lessons aligned with the National Curriculum and GCSE specifications. During this period, I gained valuable experience working within diverse educational environments, supporting students from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities. I consistently demonstrated strong classroom management skills, effective behaviour management strategies, and the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and carers.
My extensive experience in Nigeria includes positions as Lecturer in Mathematics at St. Augustine's College of Education and Mathematics Teacher in several leading secondary schools. In these roles, I successfully prepared students for national and international examinations, achieving substantial improvements in student performance. Through targeted intervention programmes, after-school revision classes, and personalised learning plans, I contributed to significant increases in examination success rates, with many students exceeding their predicted grades. Notably, I helped improve examination outcomes by up to 80% and successfully raised average attainment levels across several year groups.
I am passionate about developing innovative and engaging learning experiences that inspire students to appreciate the value and relevance of mathematics. I have extensive experience integrating technology into teaching and learning, including the use of interactive whiteboards, digital learning platforms, educational software, podcasts, videos, and online assessment tools. These approaches have enhanced student engagement, improved accessibility to learning materials, and supported independent study. Furthermore, my implementation of technology-based learning initiatives contributed to a significant reduction in teaching resource costs while simultaneously improving learning outcomes.
My expertise in assessment and evaluation is strengthened by my doctoral studies in Measurement and Evaluation. I possess a strong understanding of assessment design, data analysis, progress monitoring, and evidence-based improvement strategies. I regularly use assessment data to identify learning gaps, inform lesson planning, and implement targeted interventions. This analytical approach enables me to monitor progress effectively and ensure that all learners receive the support and challenge they require.
Safeguarding and student wellbeing are central to my professional practice. I hold current training in Safeguarding for Teachers, Safeguarding in Education Levels 1 and 2, Prevent Awareness, Prevent Referrals, and Behaviour Management. I understand my responsibilities in promoting a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where students feel secure and respected. Throughout my career, I have remained vigilant in identifying concerns, following safeguarding procedures, and working collaboratively with safeguarding teams and external agencies where necessary to protect the welfare of learners.
I have consistently demonstrated strong interpersonal and collaborative skills throughout my career. I work effectively as part of multidisciplinary teams, contributing positively to departmental initiatives, curriculum development, quality improvement activities, and student support programmes. I actively engage in professional development opportunities and continuously reflect on my practice to enhance teaching effectiveness and student outcomes. My experience of mentoring students, supporting colleagues, and contributing to institutional improvement reflects my commitment to educational excellence.
As an educator, I strongly believe that every learner can succeed when provided with high-quality teaching, appropriate support, and a positive learning environment. My teaching philosophy is centred on inclusivity, high expectations, mutual respect, and continuous improvement. I strive to develop not only students' mathematical competence but also their confidence, resilience, independence, and aspiration.
I am excited about the opportunity to bring my extensive teaching experience, subject expertise, and commitment to student success to your organisation. I am confident that my combination of academic qualifications, practical teaching experience, safeguarding knowledge, and passion for mathematics education would enable me to make a valuable contribution to your students and wider community.
