I submitted my thesis for examination towards meeting the requirements for a PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), South Africa, with a projected completion date of September 2026. I was enrolled as a part-time PhD candidate in the Department of Chemical Engineering at UKZN.
I am also currently the chairperson and a lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Zimbabwe. I hold a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa (2015) and a B.Eng. (Honours) in Chemical Engineering from NUST (2009). I have over 10 years of teaching and research experience, along with ample Industrial experience, which I believe makes me a suitable candidate for the position. I have ample experience working in laboratories and using analytical equipment. I have gained expertise in volumetric property measurements and advanced spectroscopic characterisation methods, including FTIR, NMR, XRF, and Raman spectroscopy, thereby enriching my capabilities for the separation processes in the lithium industry. I have ample experience in managing department and project budgets, with over 5 years of experience in programme administration.
I am an exceptional communicator and can effectively interpret data and present it in reports and for journal publication. I have extensive experience in utilising various software packages, including Aspen Plus, MATLAB, Python, SAP ERP, and SPSS. I have conducted numerous simulations using Aspen Plus for both my PhD work and personal research. I am also an associate member of the Institute of Chemical Engineers.
As chairperson of the department, I perform a significant amount of pastoral work with students, particularly junior staff, who are trying to find their way. I am a good team player and very committed to other growth and outreach activities. I am also a patron of the Rotaractors Club of NUST, where I oversee a significant amount of community work undertaken by university students in Bulawayo and beyond. I also serve as a member of the Rotary Club of Bulawayo South, where I sit on various committees, including the Projects and New Generations Committees. I am currently the president of the Rotary Club of Bulawayo South, where I have had experience in applying for global grants.
With extensive research experience and a leadership role at my institute, I believe I am a strong candidate for this position. I have a strong understanding of documentation practices, as evidenced by my effective reporting and my ability to publish journal articles based on my research.
I am a conscientious, highly motivated, results-oriented, and hardworking individual. I am a team player who pays attention to detail. I am flexible, quick to pick up new skills, and eager to learn from others. In addition, I am a mature individual with demonstrable leadership skills and a passion for process innovation and research dissemination.
