The main fields of my research interest is in health and social care/ public health with health inequalities which have been expressed both during my masters program and in my PhD research project. The research title during my masters program was “ Parental Knowledge and awareness on HPV vaccine in boys of 9-19 years in the UK”. This was born from the point of my medical background as a medical doctor, that gave me the opportunity of interacting with diverse kinds of people from various multicultural groups in Nigeria. This has then cascaded into an overwhelming interest to embark on a PhD study on vaccine hesitancy in ethnic communities, in a bid to understand inequalities in health has brought me to another field of interest as health inequalities.
I am well grounded with the public health principles and research concepts so I was awarded with a distinction upon graduation during the MSc program with the university of Sunderland.
Currently on a doctoral study with the University of Lincoln in my rounding up year. I have demonstrated the use of STATA and Jamovi, a statistical software tool in analyzing quantitative data. So also, I have obtained skills in the use of NVivo, a statistical software for analyzing qualitative study. Ongoing systematic review research with protocol registered on PROSPERO and therefore I am able to transfer knowledge on research search strategies using both Mesh heading and subject headings as well as using Covidence to review articles.
My knowledge can be transferred to higher education students by bringing the complexity of both orthodox medicine and public health principles, comparing global health inequalities in various dimensions.
Having studied medicine and practiced for over 10 years in Nigeria with a Masters in public health and currently on a doctoral study, I have gained skills and experience in public health modules and research methods design. Therefore, I am able to transfer knowledge to other students. Also, being able to plan and organize previous lectures in health and Social Care modules like “sociological and psychological perspectives in health and wellbeing”, “Global pictures on cultural diversity in health challenges and barriers” and other more. With all these I have demonstrated confidence in management, planning and structuring.
I also work in synergy by collaborating and working as a team, enhancing productivity which will promote a safe and healthy working environment for other members of staff, boosting mental health and wellbeing. Also understanding and embracing ideas of colleagues by promoting equality, inclusion and diversity, will foster an enabling environment for mental stability and further increase output.
Also by avoiding discriminating comments on protected characteristics in order to promote a safe working environment.
Being able to absorb healthy constructive criticism from fellow colleagues has elicited optimization in delivering course modules and promote better skills
I also share and learn new techniques and skills from both internally and externally related fields in academia through interpersonal relationships. Collaborating with colleagues in other fields to develop quality techniques, skills and tools for delivering across all the elements of the course programme. Engaging in continuous self training and development, attending internal and external conferences for updates purposes.
To possibly encourage methods and skills in attracting funding in research for students to promote and better their experience.
Management skills obtained through continuous engagements with students and attending workshops on preparing to teach in higher education.
