Lecturer – Land Based Studies
Part Time (26.25 hours per week)
Salary: Up to £35,496 per annum (pro rata)

Plumpton College is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Lecturer in Land Based Studies to deliver an engaging land-based studies programme at Homewood School & 6th Form.
This is an exciting opportunity to inspire young people through a practical and varied curriculum, introducing them to the wide-ranging opportunities within the rural land-based sector. You will help students develop skills, knowledge and confidence while supporting their progression to further study and future careers.
About the Role
As a Lecturer in Land Based Studies, you will lead Plumpton College students in completing a land-based studies programme at Homewood School & 6th Form. You will deliver elements of learning from across animal care, countryside and environment, land-based studies and horticulture, giving students a valuable introduction to these specialist pathways and preparing them for future Level 2 study.
You will plan and deliver engaging lessons that bring learning to life, combining theory with hands-on experience involving land and farm animals. You will support students to achieve their best, building their practical skills, confidence and understanding of the sector.
You will:
- Plan, deliver and assess high-quality lessons to a consistently strong standard
- Carry out initial assessments and maintain accurate Individual Learning Plans
- Adapt teaching to meet individual learner needs and support positive progress
- Embed English, maths and wider employability skills within teaching
- Track student progress closely and take action where progress is at risk
- Provide timely and constructive feedback on classwork, coursework, homework and assessments
- Act as a personal tutor, setting targets and supporting student progress and wellbeing
- Work closely with Homewood School staff and Plumpton College colleagues to support attendance, engagement and safeguarding
- Support work experience activity, employer liaison and recording of student progress
- Contribute to quality improvement, student voice, self-assessment and curriculum development
- Support enrolment, induction, taster events, interviews, parents’ evenings and promotional activities
- Maintain a strong and collaborative relationship with Homewood staff while representing Plumpton College and its values
About You
We are looking for a professional, adaptable and committed individual who is passionate about supporting young people to succeed and progress within land-based education.
Essential:
- Degree, relevant professional qualification or equivalent
- Teaching qualification relevant to the level of programme or willingness to work towards one
- Level 2 (or above) qualification in English and maths
- Sector or industry experience and/or specialist subject knowledge in relevant land-based areas
- Evidence of, or clear potential to, teach to a consistently strong standard
- Strong understanding of the needs of young people and how these can be supported effectively
- Clear understanding of safeguarding, student welfare and positive behaviour management
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong IT skills and ability to use digital tools to enhance teaching and learning
- A collaborative approach and commitment to student success
- Flexible, adaptable and able to respond positively to change
