Earth Day and Sustainability: How RNN Group is Making a Difference

Published on 22/04/2025

Earth Day, celebrated annually on April 22nd, is a global event that highlights the importance of environmental protection. First observed in 1970, Earth Day now unites more than 190 countries in raising awareness about critical issues such as pollution, deforestation, climate change, and biodiversity loss. But most importantly, in inspiring action.

At onlyFE, we’re proud to shine a spotlight on our client, the RNN Group, for the work they’re doing to embed sustainability across their campuses.

Sustainability at RNN Group

Whether it’s the wind turbines at Dearne Valley College (pictured above) or energy-saving initiatives across sites, RNN Group is actively investing in a more sustainable future. Their efforts span energy and utilities, travel, recycling, printing practices, and even the promotion of local flora and fauna.

Sustainability isn’t just a box-ticking exercise — it’s central to how the RNN Group operates. While their journey is ongoing, what’s clear is that both staff and learners are united in driving change and reducing their environmental impact.

Small Actions, Big Impact

Earth Day is a timely reminder that we all have a role to play. Here are just a few ways individuals can support sustainability in their daily lives:

  • Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Cut down on single-use items, reuse where possible, and recycle materials like paper, plastic, glass, and metal.
  • Conserve Energy: Switch off lights and electronics when not in use, opt for energy-efficient appliances, and explore renewable energy options like solar or wind.
  • Save Water: Fix leaks, take shorter showers, and install water-saving devices such as low-flow taps and toilets.
  • Travel Sustainably: Walk, cycle, carpool, or use public transport to help reduce carbon emissions.
  • Choose Sustainable Products: Support companies committed to eco-friendly practices. Look for certifications like Fair Trade or FSC (Forest Stewardship Council).
  • Eat Sustainably: Buy local and organic, reduce food waste, and compost where you can.
  • Get Involved: Volunteer for conservation projects, back environmental initiatives, and advocate for policies that protect our natural world.
  • Stay Informed: Continue learning about environmental challenges and share what you know to help inspire others.

The RNN Group is committed to being sustainable in all that it does and is looking at ways it can do this whilst being innovative. Take a look at their latest job opportunities here.
