To prove this, we have been publishing our 'Thrill of FE' series, which started with this post, and continues today. As a new term begins, we want to help inspire all of you that work in the sector by telling you about some of the fascinating and impressive good news stories from Colleges around the UK.

A (football) star is born

josephThe staff and teachers at Nelson and Colne College (not to mention Joseph’s parents) certainly have something to be proud of – Joseph Kouadio, 17, has been selected to join the impressive Nike Academy. Having honed his skills on the Burnley FC Shadow Squad, this young shining star is said to be ‘over the moon’ after beating out over 7000 other competitors. Kudos to Nelson and Colne College, and huge congratulations to the talented Mr. Kouadio.

Swansea apprentice wins prestigious tech award

fe-good-newsStefano Amoruso, a Gower College Swansea student, has just been awarded the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Local Network Prize for outstanding achievements in the field. Described by his teachers as a diligent student whose ‘skills and maturity are demonstrated on a daily basis,’ Amoruso is an accomplished apprentice with a slew of past awards under his belt. Well done, Stefano!

Eastbourne student sews her way to the very top

good news FEShe may be just 18 years old, but this summer Eastbourne’s Jade Earley proved to the country that she could sew with the best of them! This talented This talented Sussex Downs College student was featured as a contestant on BBC 2’s ‘Great British Sewing Bee, and despite her tender age, made it to the finale of the contest. This is a huge accomplishment for anyone at any age, so massive kudos for doing so as the show’s youngest contestant.

A DJ in the making from Stoke on Trent

further education good newsStoke on Trent College’s Lucas Yeomans has just become the youngest DJ ever to land himself a National Radio time slot. At the age of 17, Yeomans is doing something that many adults far his senior only wish they could do - he is hosting a regular Saturday morning slot for a nationally aired radio station. As a first-year creative media student, he has gained the skills and confidence he needs from Stoke on Trent College and is now making his dreams come true in what is sure to be the first of many enviable radio hosting gigs.   As you can see from the stories above, the students across this country are already making huge waves and making their dreams come true, inspiring others with their technological, artistic, creative and sporting abilities.
